One of the best ways to get cheap car insurance is by comparing car insurance quotes — and the companies offering them. To get you started, NerdWallet looked at car insurance prices across the country for different driver profiles and coverage levels to find the cheapest rates. We’ve sliced the data in several ways to give you an idea of average costs and what factors might nudge your car insurance rate up — or even better, down.
I've had State Farm my whole life and they have always done right by me. On April 10, 2009 my home was destroyed by a tornado. Amidst all the turmoil, the traffic, and the inability to call anyone... I was finally able to reach my agent around midnight to report my claim. The next morning I went to the location of my destroyed home around 8 am to find my agent was already there with a check in hand to keep me on my feet. My agent and claims team found me a town home to stay in, fully furnished it with supplies and furniture, and allowed me to stay there until the construction on my new home was complete. All the while, tending to my every need and resolving any complications or worries I had very quickly.
Every car is classified into a different insurance group, numbered from one to 50. The cheapest cars to insure sit in the first group, but the more powerful or valuable the car, the higher and therefore more expensive the insurance grouping. For example, 21st Century Insurance offers a discount to drivers under the age of 21 who take a state approved defensive driver course but with Esurance the discount is not age-based and is available to all drivers in New York, New Jersey, North Dakota, Georgia and Oklahoma.

Working with insurance adjusters on a daily basis, I couldn't image carrying insurance through any other company. I find Erie to be the most likely to settle claims, which makes me feel extremely well-covered when I'm on the road. I know that if something happens, and the other person doesn't have insurance, my company will take care of me without pushing back or thinking of dropping me. I love ERIE!.

Young adults can take advantage of Geico's discount after being accident-free for five years, taking driver's ed courses, good student discounts, military, and federal employee discounts. They're also affiliated with more than 500 membership and employee groups.
BTW regarding the wreck- do NOT talk to the other insurance company- the @ fault driver’s insurance company. You’re not required if you have a lawyer. Get a lawyer!! Call them from the hospital if you have to they’ll come to you @ the hospital if you call them there. They’ll even come out to your house. Please don’t let the insurance company screw you. You just want what’s fair & your property covered fairly.
Being in the business for a very long time, I have found that most people are clueless about insurance, even most agents who sell them. I will agree that their rates are cheap. But I wouldn’t recommend them. Inexperienced adjusters. They do not fully investigate. The policy does not cover like, kind, and quality which is bad if you have a new vehicle.

That depends! All else being equal, group one would probably give the cheapest insurance. However a large part of the cost of insurance is each insurer's individual claims experience. This means it's not a perfect science and you'll have to run quotes on a few different cars from groups 2, 3 and beyond to be sure you're finding the car with the lowest insurance quote for your requirements.


I was with Liberty Mutual for about 15 years and was very satisfied with their prices and service, although I never filed a claim. When I retired and moved from California to Florida, my auto rate went up a ridiculous amount, to almost $10,000 a year even though I had no accidents and one minor moving violation in the last ten years. On top of that, Liberty Mutual screwed up my umbrella policy and told me it was “unenforceable,” whatever that means, but I had to pay for the policy anyway up to the time I canceled and switched to Progressive, which cost about one third the cost of Liberty Mutual for an identical policy. Even good companies change over time.


Liberty Mutual just dropped my family because of two claims that were made on my daughters car. She had her car at school freshmen year and It was parked and hit on the rear corner closest to the road. It wasn’t her fault and no one came forward to admit to the accident. She no longer has a car at school, and drives rarely when she’s home. The second accident was when she was pulling out of the carport and her front bumper caught a wooden railing when she was backing out. That was her fault, but an accident. Isn’t that why we have insurance????? Before I got this letter from Liberty mutual, I sang their praises. I will loudly have bad things to say from now on. Don’t count on Liberty Mutual
Insurance groups are designated for vehicles in the UK. I love metlife! My brother was driving my car and wrecked it. They were so responsive and proactive. They encouraged him to see a doctor right away, paid all the medical bills promptly, and paid a decent price for my totaled car. They routinely checked up on my brother to make sure he was getting all of the attention he needed. I couldn't believe these guys! THEN my brother hit a building with my truck and did some damage to the building. They again dealt with it promptly and settled with the property owner. They were so available and easy to talk with. They were so nice to me and after these two incidents, they did not raise my rates or anything. Truly, I will never use any other company! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them.

Geico is the second-largest auto insurance provider in the United States. While they’re considered second-tier by Consumer Reports (listed under parent company Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group), their customers rate them high in the categories of ease of reaching an agent, promptness of response, agent courtesy, and timely payment. Not bad in terms of customer service.
Had this company for years including coverage for my 21 Year son...not an easy feat to get reasonable prices, complete consideration by all employees and real people who meet all our needs when it really counts. Example..my son was in a total loss accident when hit (hit and run) on a busy freeway. He had minor physical injuries but Wawanesa came through providing everything we needed! We love Wawanesa.

I just saved about $400 dollars a year by switching to AAA from State Farm. The coverage for my cars is the same and the coverage for my home is much better (and cheaper) than before. I have a credit card through AAA, roadside assistance through AAA and finally, my insurance through AAA. I could not be happier. On all fronts, AAA has the best customer service I've ever encountered.
